Legend of the Seeker Needs a Season 3
Call me one of the many fans of the show that think the series should continue. Legend of the Seeker is in its second season and is perhaps the finest sci-fi fantasy show ever produced for television and yes, I’m including the HBO stuff. Unfortunately, no one knows about the show. Everytime I mention it to someone, I get a blank stare. That’s what happens when WLKY in Louisville, KY airs the show on Sunday at 1:35am. Disney is not renewing the show for a third season after complaining that it hasn’t drawn enough ratings. Last time I checked, most people are asleep at 1:35am EST. The show gets a 2.5 million viewer rating every week. I can only think that the viewership would increase with a primetime slot somewhere on a major network.
Anyway, Season 1 and Season 2 are on Netflix for Instant Watching. The Xbox 360 does a great job with the HD and because it’s filmed in New Zealand, the scenery is amazing. To say that I enjoy the show is an understatement. Disney does the show a huge disservice by not promoting it properly and burying it in a 1:35am timeslot.
The show is based off of Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth series and I intend to read the books no matter what the outcome is for season three. The show has me interested in learning more about the world. The production value of the show is something like Xena but with high quality environments, better action scenes and none of the campy humor that was part of Xena. It’s a much more serious sci-fi fantasy show. The writing ebbs and flows like any other television series but it is generally above average and more than occasionally great. I want there to be a season three but studio executives can’t tell a good show with sub par marketing from a bad show with great marketing. The former is fixable. The latter is just a bad show. It’s unfortunate that Seeker will suffer the same fate. Perhaps, the name of the season finale coming next week is fitting; ‘Tears’.
